Summer Vilyuchinsky Pass

In the summer season, people come here for beautiful views of volcanoes. In good weather, you will be able to see as many as 8 volcanoes: Vilyuchinsky, Gorely, Mutnovsky, Avachinsky, Koryaksky, Kozelsky, Arik and Aag.
The road to the Vilyuchinsky Pass passes through the Zaikin Klyuch stream (the popular name is Silver Stream), which flows down from the slopes of the Zaikin Cape Mountain (948 m). On this territory there are many alpine plants, and in the Red Book of Russia there are large-flowered venereal slipper and Yatabe venereal slipper, which can also be found here. The stream is ennobled and has a convenient place to set the purest water.

The next stop on the road to the Vilyuchinsky Pass is the bridge over the Paratunka River. Here you can take beautiful pictures on the background of the river and the Vilyuchinsky volcano. After the bridge, the path begins along the mountain serpentine straight to the pass.

Three statues of gamuls will meet you at the Vilyuchinsky Pass. One of them is holding a whale, the second is smoking a pipe, and the third is standing with a tambourine. According to one of the indigenous legends, gamuls are spirits living on volcanoes that feed on whales and have the ability to cause rain. Itelmen have always had a reverent reverence for these spirits and tried not to disturb their peace and made offerings in the form of meat at the foot of volcanoes.

The territory of the Vilyuchinsky pass is equipped with benches and information signs about the natural diversity of these places. A walk along the observation deck will be informative, thanks to information boards, on which there is a detailed description of the flora and fauna of the Vilyuchinsky pass. The slopes are dotted with cedar elfin and lots of flowers. Sometimes bears come here, so be on your guard!

Winter Vilyuchinsky Pass

Freeriders come to Kamchatka for the mind-blowing slopes. On the Vilyuchinsky pass there is an opportunity to cut through fields with fluffy snow and views of volcanoes. The height difference here is from 300 to 500 m., and the length of the descents is from 1 to 2 km. The slopes are suitable for both beginners and experienced riders. The beginning of the descent is one, but the slope will please with a variety of couloirs.

Usually there are freeride programs on the Vilyuchinsky Pass with casts onsnowmobiles, but under good conditions, the option of casting on high-terrain vehicles is possible.

A mandatory place to visit in winter in the area of the Vilyuchinsky pass is the Vilyuchinsky waterfall, whose height is 40 meters. Locals nicknamed it "icicle" because of the characteristic shape that the icy waterfall takes.

However, it is worth noting that visiting the Vilyuchinsky waterfall in winter requires special caution, since ice formations can be very slippery and dangerous. The guides of Kamchatka freeride community will not expose the group to danger, therefore, at the slightest natural factors, they will cancel the trip to the waterfall and offer an alternative.

Thermal pools

On the way back to the city from the Vilyuchinsky pass, tourists can relax in the pools with thermal water in the village of Paratunka. The village of Paratunka is located in a zone of geological activity, where volcanoes, geysers and other signs of volcanic activity are present. This provides the village with thermal water, which contains minerals and has an elevated temperature due to its proximity to magma and heating of the inner layers of the Earth. The water temperature can vary from +35°C to +70°C.It has medicinal properties and can have a positive effect on people's health and well-being: reducing stress, improving blood circulation, relieving muscle and joint pain.
