Sea kayaking offers the best opportunity to see the beauties of Kamchatka from the water, admire the hidden grottoes of Avacha Bay and our «home» volcanoes, guarding Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
On this tour you will have a chance to get acquainted with representatives of Kamchatka’s wild fauna, including ocean birds (tufted puffins, seagulls, cormorants) and large marine mammals (pusas (earless seals), sea otters and others).
We will take you on an unforgettable adventure! On board our «Kosatka» sailing catamaran and on sea kayaks, you will visit places out of reach for most other sea vessels.
You will be provided with a life jacket, kayak, spray skirt and a paddle.
This is the best opportunity to see the beauty of Kamchatka from the water. Admire the grottoes and «home» volcanoes lost in Avacha Bay, which are like guards guarding Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
The group meets in front of the “MORVOKZAL” square.
Sailing to Tikhaya Bay
Having boarded our “Kosatka” catamaran, we will put out to sea and will sail from Nikolskaya Sopka in the centre Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky to Tikhaya Bay at the very beginning of the Avacha coastline. The voyage takes approximately 1-1.5 hours. We will sail along the southern part of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the oldest part of the city, in particular, past the shipyard in operation until the end of the 20th century. We will pass the Zavoyko peninsula, named after the first governor-general of Kamchatka, Vasily Zavoyko and having crossed Avacha Bay will find ourselves in Tikhaya Bay.
Tikhaya Bay
The name of Tikhaya Bay is no accident (“tikhiy” means quiet in Russian). Even when the wind is strong on the sea, it is quiet here and waters are not stormy.
Briefing
After a safety briefing on how to paddle a kayak, we board and set into the water. PLEAS NOTE! The group is divided into two, where the first goes on kayaks accompanied by a catamaran and a kayaker guide, while the second, if they wish so, can stay on the beach in the bay, or can join the kayakers on the catamaran. The groups then switch.
Kayaking: 1st group
Our goal, depending on the weather and the roughness of the sea, is to visit as many sea grottoes as possible. You will be surprised, but there are several of them one after the other. In some you can sail through the rocks, others resemble large halls passable only on sea kayaks. Here we will find ourselves amid Kamchatka’s marine fauna. The rocks of Tikhaya Bay and its environs are home to hundreds of gulls, cormorants, puffins and tysties. Sometimes on the cliffs you can also spot magestic eagles, who like making nests and raising offspring on steep slopes. If we are lucky, passing by Palets Kekur, on the shallows we will see spotted seals that enjoy basking on coastal rocks or accompanying kayakers.
