Kuril Lake is the second largest lake in Russia. This lake was formed as a result of a powerful volcanic eruption and the shift of tectonic plates. It is surrounded by incredible landscapes in their beauty: the flora and fauna of the lake and the surrounding area is admired and surprised.
Our tour consists of 3 parts and will start at the heliport in the village of Nikolaevka, Elizovsky District, where we will board a comfortable Mi-8 helicopter and fly to the very south of Kamchatka, to the South Kamchatka Tikhon Shpilenka Federal Reserve. The heart of this nature reserve is the Kuril Lake. During the 1-hour-30-minute flight, from the windows of the helicopter we will have an opportunity to admire Vilyuchinsky, Mutnovsky, Gorely, Asacha and Opala volcanoes as well as countless rivers and lakes. Flying over the Kuril Lake we will see Serdtse Alaida (Heart of Alaid) island, lauded in beautiful legends.
Excursion along the Kuril Lake
Accompanied by the inspector of the reserve, we will then proceed to one of the man-made sights on the Kuril Lake — a fish counting fence. It is here that scientists count the salmon that have come up to the lake to spawn, and it is here that bears like to fish. Sometimes you can spot more than a dozen bears simultaneously, consumed by the feast and paying no attention to anyone around, thus giving you chance to take a closer look at this magnificent animal. After the excursion, that will last approximately 1 hour 30 minutes, we will have lunch.
Ksudach Volcano caldera
By helicopter, we will fly to the next stop on our journey — the caldera of Ksudach Volcano, that erupted in 1907 and its ashes were found even in Greenland. The entire caldera of this giant has now turned into Lake Klyuchevoe with its main attraction — the hot beach, heated by thermal waters coming to the surface along the edge of the lake.
Hot springs and return to the city
The third stop of our journey will be Khodutka Volcano and Khodutskinsky hot springs. Hot thermal water outlets are located along the bottom and the banks of the river, and the water temperature here reaches 40°C. Khodutka springs are considered curative, they contain a large amount of silicic acid. We willt hen return to the city.
